FLⒶT$ / Phung-Tien Phan, Rebecca Grundmann, Frederik Exner

Phung-Tien Phan (b. 1983) lives and works in Essen. She helds a BA in photography from the Folkwang University Of Arts. Additionally she studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf for 2,5 years. Phung-Tien Phan works primarily in the media of sculpture and film; the work calling upon the (psychic) material of her everyday experience. Overtly casual, her practice is nonetheless assertive, supportive of the value of humor, criticality and experimentation. Phan’s work has been included in institutional exhibitions including Rushes, Fluentum, Berlin (2025), Follow the Feeling, Times Museum, Guangzhou (2024) and Kartoffel, Kunsthalle Basel (2023).
In her artistic practice, Rebecca Grundmann (b. 1995) confronts personal truths and seemingly unalterable circumstances that shape our daily lives. She is interested in challenging these rigid structures to uncover a world of artificiality and absurdity; cultural norms as a facade, a feigned sense of stability. In her own work, Grundmann is curious about their artistic appropriation into new contexts, what happens when the well-known and familiar is rendered in a new light. Rebecca Grundmann was raised in Birmingham, England and studied Fine Art at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where she graduated as a master student of Prof. Rita McBride in 2021. Her work has been part of several exhibitions and projects, such as Appendage (2025), solo show at b10b.series, Düsseldorf; Trajectories (2023) with Katerina Matsagkos at F.E.A. | ΦΑΙΑ, Athens; Biennale für Freiburg (2023); Düsseldorf Photo+ (2020); and the Biennale Architettura, Venice (2018), as part of the group project Île Flottante. She currently lives and works in Berlin.
Frederik Exner’s (b. 1991 in Aarhus, Denmark) figurative sculptures could be described as the imagery of a fictitious culture or belief system that doesn’t belong to humankind as we know it today. This image-world is not based on a firmly defined mythology, but is inconstant renegotiation through repetitions, iterations and contradictions. He is interested in sculpture as a medium in both the art- and cultural history, especially in the intersection between figuration and abstract symbols that is often found in religious art. Frederik Exner has studied at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts as well as École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, from where he graduated in 2024. His work has been shown in institutions and exhibition spaces such as Musée de Cluny (Paris), FRAC Île de France (Paris), Galerie Municipal Jean Collet (Vitry), Fondation Pernod Ricard (Paris) and Tranen (Hellerup).
The Exhibition is kindly supported by Kunststiftung NRW
